As a lover of all types of animal print, I've never covered anything in snakeskin fabric.  I think an entryway bench might be the right job for me to experiment with...

Outfitting the Entryway

The entryway is the first area guests see when they come into your home.
While most home owners admit this is usually the last space they tackle, 
it's your chance to really 'wow' your friends.
Go a little wild, make it a fun project! 
Hang that wallpaper you love, paint it a bold color,
use pieces and accents you've always been afraid to.

You'll want to create a focal point. 

A chest, table, bench, chairs, mirror. 

A rug is always a nice and warm way to welcome your guests.

Although I currently rent, I'd love nothing more than to hang wallpaper.

You can't go wrong with a bench.

A great place to take your shoes and coat off.

I would do a really simple bench with most likely an animal print or a dalmation print like this one.

I'd also like to update my chest of drawers with some new shiny hardware. 

Either a pretty knob or a basic ring pull.

And yes, I'm willing to admit that I'd like to have a cowhide rug. 

(Although I'd use a faux one if it would make you folks happy...)

New (Old) Dining Chairs

After moving into my new place, I was surprised as to how much 

I enjoyed sitting around my kitchen table.

Whether it was of course eating, working on my computer 

or chatting with a friend, I found myself seated there a lot.

I have always loved my ghost chairs, however mostly for their aesthetic.  

So you might understand how I longed for something a tad more 'cushy'.  

Several attempts at selling them on craigslist brought me in touch with

a furniture dealer who I sold all six of them to.

In the meantime, I'd been scoping out faux bamboo upholstered chairs.

The chinese chippendale's could break anyone's wallet,

and then I found these guys:

Faux bambou legs and a back with caning (love!)
Worked out a sweet deal with the seller and they were delivered eight days later.

SOMEbody was pumped!

Next on the list was new fabric (this stuff was straight from the 80's, yuk!)

I'd been eyeing some modern asian toiles and settled on

Waverly's Canton Bazaar.

It comes in four colorways (ebony, walnut, porcelain and laquer) 

This is the ebony with a coordinating gold pattern.

I thought I might pick a new fabric for my roller shades and one for the cushions.

I liked the ebony better on the chairs although it was too matchy with the table.

Then I tried the Porcelain.

Hmmmmm.....I likey......

Blue and White striped roller shades?

Too matchy....

Toile in windows, this on the cushions?

Yep, too matchy....

Trying to "envision" and the amount of duct tape I have 

to use, proves to be quite difficult.

Hark!  Maybe I'll keep my black striped shades and use 

the Porcelain on the chairs??

Yes....I think this might have been one
of my quickest decisions ever.

Happy New Year?

Because yes.  It's been that long since I've attended to my blog.

Lot's of things have happened since last year, mainly another move for Luce and I.

I can't think of many things worse than moving.
The packing, the purging, the boxes, the stress.

I loved our condo: modern, safe and convenient.
But I happened upon an apartment 

that would help save me money and I pounced.
Not to mention it's more my style. 

An older building (in my old neighborhood- yay!),
beautifully renovated with the original floors and fireplaces.
Lucy's new bedroom is twice the size and mine is larger as well.
And there are all new windows.  

That's right.  I said: All. New. Windows.

Now, hear me out......I love the charm and the waves you
can see in the glass of an old window.

But if I had to choose between a drafty window with broken ropes
(there were pieces of wood in half the windows of my old house to help prop them open)
or new ones that always opened smoothly while allowing the
breeze to drift through the front door to the back of the house?  

Say no more.

With a new place comes new ideas, fabrics and all around obsessing.

I took a few pictures of my bedroom and the hallway.  

It's always about the bedding for me, isn't it?

I'm sorry, I can't help it.  It's my sanctuary, isn't it yours?

I added black grosgrain ribbon to the edges of my ivory curtain panels.

I plan to hang a light weight faux deer head or mounted antlers above the mantel.

I found this desk at Scout Antiques for a seriously reasonable price.  

The top is marble.

The foyer once you step inside the front door is huge.
(Aren't those little hummingbirds cute?)
