Chevron Curtains

Just when I thought the craze with chevron was coming to an end,
I decided to hang 6 curtain panels with this pattern in my bedroom.

Since Lucy and I switched bedrooms, I now have four windows instead of two
and the four ivory panels I had used were no longer working for me.
Luckily, my parents needed to update their curtains as well,
so I upcycled those and got these to replace them.

I had seen these posted on another blog, they were from Hobby Lobby.
I've never even been in a Hobby Lobby, but they were very inexpensive ($30/panel)
and thought they would give my bland bedroom some much needed energy.

Ironing.....

Taping the folds with duct tape so they will stay in place.
Yes, I use duct tape for EVERYTHING.

After a few days of being hung and taped, I was really excited with how they turned out.

And so my crush on chevron continues....

Meet My New Design Partner...

She's only 6 but already has a great eye for design.
Although I am possibly the worlds worst blogger, this sweet little face
has convinced me that we should start our own business.
In fact, we already have our first client! (projects coming soon)
All we need to do is finalize a name; here are a few we've tossed around:

Lulu Designs (my fave)
lucyellen design (Lucy has vetoed)
White Design
CL Design
LC Design

((Comments and/or suggestions are welcome))

While antique shopping, Lucy bee-lined to this reupholstered
Milo Baughman sofa that I would love to replace my red one with.
Did I mention she was 6?

A couple of weeks ago on a rainy Sunday, we decided
it would be fun to switch bedrooms.
I moved a-lot-o furniture that day.

Good-bye 'old' bedroom.

(oy vey)

Hello 'new' bedroom. Will post more pictures when I have some good lighting.

****************************************
I've been working on a few things around the apartment.

I wanted to update my very plain bathroom with some ribbon and an antique rug.
For a few dollars, I could add a
greek key pattern onto my Target shower curtain.

I used 2" wide black grosgrain ribbon and some tape to hold it in
place while I laid it out before I glued it down.
I use Liquid Stitch so there is no sewing!

Quite happy with how it turned out.

I love paint by numbers.
I found this for $6, it was already set in a plain wood frame.
I used some black laquer spray paint on the frame and a gold leaf pen on the
very inside of the frame and now I "super" love it.

Oh, and I am obsessed with my gold leaf pen.
This gorgeous golden used to be in a wooden frame as well.

Adding gold leopard spots to a plain white dish suddenly goes glam.

An Eiffel tower that used to be white?  Now it's gold!

A $3 candle....now there are polka dots!

Another candle....gold chevron!

Another paint by numbers in a wood frame?
Not anymore!

And who knows what else will be gold leafed by next week?!

Looking forward to our new venture, please keep us in mind if you need help decorating.
PEACE!
XOXO

I Brake for Yard Sales

I recently got a chance to check out the design book 'I Brake for Yard Sales' by Lara Spencer.
Have you heard of it?
Lara is a co-anchor for Good Morning America and design extraordinaire.

Blessed with amazing style and the ability to find
incredible pieces for your home on the cheap, Lara gives you the tricks of the trade,
helps you find and define your own style and recognize quality pieces.
Lara found these lamps from Goodwill for $10/each.
The sofa was only $160 at a thrift shop and she had it recovered to match her room.
Club chairs and coffee tables, recovered and revived.

If only I lived in a city full of great treasures (sigh).
I definitely own a few coveted 'diamonds' I've found around town, but nothing like Lara.
Still waiting to catch something on Craigslist that I have to
drive across town and purchase immediately.

**********

After recovering her kitchen chairs one too many times,
Lara covered them with laminated shower curtains!
(genius)

This green campaign style chest was a steal at $40
(painted and then covered with custom cut mirrored glass).
The mirror a sweet $22, and green vases: $2.50 each.

Retro wallpaper gives traditional furnishings a modern look.

Kathy Griffin's living room, designed by Lara Spencer.

Desk: $40
Lucite chair: $75
Club chair: $45

Am hoping to post more regularly throughout the holiday's.
Would love to get out and do a little yard sale-ing myself while I have some time off.
Merry Christmas friends!

discovered: House of Fifty

This morning I happened upon this online shelter magazine, House of Fifty.
The premier issue was published in Summer, 2011.
I looked through a few of the issues and was
pleasantly excited to find that I really like it.
You can purchase print copies (like you can at Lonny),
and I so desperately want to own them all.

premier issue.

dreamy blue chairs.

love: entire space.

does a cozier headboard exist?

I really dig the short curtains although I can't convince anyone else.
(note to self: do an entire post on them...)

DIY tutorial.

and there is a crazy amount of cool art in every issue.

Have a good weekend!

Finishing the Attic with Bunk Beds and a Playroom.

Imagine if you had an entire second floor or attic
of your home, unfinished, with two big rooms
and darling dormer windows.
The entire space needs minimal work and your growing daughter will soon need a place for her and her friends to play and (stay up) all night.
Would you go with bunk beds or twin beds?
I love both...

There are so many directions you could go,
and whatever you decide, it will definitely be an adventure!
